Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

I am a disabled veteran and I am looking for a trade to learn to get me out of my current job working in a factory. It's just too hard on me now. I've always had a fascination with mens hats, especially the Fedora. Would love to learn how to make them and turn it into a profession.

If there are any hat makers here that can offer some advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

O.K., I think I am finally emotionally prepared to part with this honey of a jacket.

I have put this jacket up for sale a couple times, thought better of it and taken it down, only to eventually realize again that I just don't wear it that often. I seem to always be reaching for a horsehide or non-leather jacket.

So here you go!

This is a Rough Wear 1401-P bought new from Goodwear Leather in the summer of 2013. Leather is the “Ultra-Vintage Dark Russet Brown” (LGI104), which is in my...

Looking to sell this fantastic Sears - Oakbrook Sportswear D-pocket cross zip / double rider leather jacket, in a size 38.

Price is $300.

▶Info◀
If I am not mistaken, this is the early 1960's version of this very popular style. Not much difference from the 50's version. I much prefer the collar on this one.

Beautiful, over-dyed, surprisingly thick & heavy leather. Just look at the grain and the texture.
All the zippers are Conmar;...

wondering about advertised size question

I don't understand why you see so many quality leather jackets advertised as "labeled xyz" but "fits like abc". I don't want to name any vendors in particular, but if you go to eBay and do a search, say, on "CXL jacket", you see a lot of them. Labeled 40, fits like 44, etc, etc. Why doesn't the manufacturer (assembler?) put a size 44 label on it if it fits like a 44? Or, why is this not sold as defective merchandise; a factory second at factory-second pricing? What am I missing? I've...

If you have 'music of your choice' on as your reading this, what are you listening to?
Stating random radio or background music is no good.

I've got Grateful Dead / The Grateful Dead CD on.

I just started the Dresden FIles by Jim Butcher. Kind of Sam SPade meets Harry Potter. A rather enjoyable bit of fluff.

We will probably agree on most masterpieces, such as Chinatown or Casablanca or Gone With the Wind. But there are a number of what I consider to be flawless, but unappreciated masterpieces, and I'm sure we all have our favorites. Mine would include:

This Land is Mine (1943)

Schindler's List

Defiance (with Daniel Craig, 2008)

There is a theme here with these particular movies because today is Holocaust Remembrance Day, but that's just a coincidence. I've been thinking of this for some...

So I got to thinkin . . . I often come across photos of cool jackets owned by others, and I struggle to find an appropriate thread to post the photos. Sometimes there is a brand specific thread, but other times there is not. Sometimes I am forced to start a thread for a particular jacket, solely to share the photo, even though the photo probably does not warrant a thread of its own. So, I figured its time that we have a depository for all the random photos we come across depicting cool...

This seems to work on other sites, so I figure that it deserves a shot here.

If you've got a quick hat question and don't see a thread for it, just post it here. Whether the question is about cleaning, anatomy of a hat, brands, etc., this is the place.
